Google Search Engine Optimization Starter Guide

If you have an online presence in the form of a website or blog and are serious about getting traffic, it is crucial that you optimize your website correctly.
A well optimized website (or post) can mean the difference between appearing at the number one position (or on the first page) in Google’s results for a particular keyword and getting thousands of visitors.. and appearing  on page 200 of Google’s results and getting no visitors.
(A tool I personally use and recommend for keyword analysis and discovery is Market Samurai.)
The higher your website  appears in Google’s results, the more traffic will be funneled your way and the more sales you will get.. it is as simple as that.
Search engine optimization or SEO  can sometimes seem like a daunting task, but when you know what you are doing it is really quite simple.
Thankfully, Google has recently updated their free search engine optimization starter guide, which gives a fantastic rundown of,
  • SEO basics
  • Improving site structure
  • Optimizing content
  • Dealing with crawlers
  • SEO for mobile phones
  • Promotion and analysis
This SEO guide makes the optimization process a breeze.
Please feel free to download and share!

How to get Millions of People to Read Your Website

Matthew Inman, the guy behind one of my favorite websites of all time, The Oatmeal, has recently given an awesome Ignite presentation titled “How to Get 5 Million People to Read Your Website.”
We’ve created viral content on occasion here on geeks are sexy (such as the teapot blowing phenomenon, which ended up on BBC one), but this guy turns “viral” into an artform. If you’ve got a website and wish you had a little more traffic, I strongly encourage you to check out this video.

How to Remove Spammers from Your Facebook Page

facebook listing spamImage by Lloyd Davis via Flickr
The only thing certain in life is death, taxes and spam.
If you are the owner of a Facebook Page and have allowed your Fans to post comments, photos, videos and links on your wall.. you can be guaranteed that sooner or later spam will start appearing.
Sometimes fans see this as a way to promote their own business by regularly posting links back to their own sites.
To me, too much of this unwanted and uninvited activity is spamming.
It is super easy to ban this person from your Facebook Page and remove all the content they have posted.
Here’s how..

Fan Permissions

Firstly you want to check what sort of permission you have allowed your fans in regard to posting content on your wall.
Login to your Facebook Page then click on Edit Page,

image
Under Wall Settings click on Edit,
image
The Fan Permissions will tell you the posting ability your Fans have,
image
You could just disable this option and prevent your Fans from posting content on your wall, but that would defeat the purpose of having a fan page!
The downside of having this enabled is the spam you will receive.

Removing Spam

Head back to your Facebook Page and click on Just Others,
image
All the content that has been posted on your Wall by your fans will now be displayed.
Once you have identified someone who is spamming your wall, click on Report,

image
Next select a Reason from the drop-down menu, check the Banning option.. then click on <Submit>
image
Then click <OK>,
image
The spammer has been blocked and all their content has been removed from your Page.
Simple.

Finally..

Social Media Optimisation For Seo – A 21St Century Marketing Strategy

Expedition 20 Flight Engineers Jeff Williams, ...Image via Wikipedia
Facebook, Twitter, Digg and Buzz are just four of the main players at the forefront of the Social Media revolution and are gaining in popularity in each day not just for tech savvy individuals but for businesses as well. The popularity of Social Media sites for individuals is obvious, it enables them to share news, views and on a base level communicate without e-mailing or texting. For business the benefits aren’t quite as obvious but free advertising is probably the thing that encourages them to sign up in the first instance.
When a business sets up an account on a Social Media site they are in effect putting themselves, products and services in the shop window for all to see and although the vast majority of people would probably just glance at their profile and move on there are a small minority that will be interested and take note. The respect in which some these Social Media sites are held in by Google and co is also a contributory factor in a company setting up a profile and this is where a number of Search Engine Optimisation companies have seen a real opportunity to broaden the portfolio of services they offer.
Search Engine Optimisation or SEO is an ever evolving industry and experts in the field were quick to recognise the enhanced search rankings and overall web presence that effective Social Media optimisation could bring to a website. SMO in conjunction with a comprehensive SEO campaign can help website owners increase their inbound traffic significantly. Typically, the content on Social Media sites is constantly updated and if there is one thing that search engines like its fresh content and as a result will cache the site and the inbound link contained within more regularly which ultimately heightens the authority in which the site is regarded by Google and the like.
Many people dismiss the Social Media sites as a waste of time and trivial but this far from the truth especially in regard to enhancing a company’s online profile. Setting up and maintaining the Social Media pages for a company on a plethora of sites is generally very time consuming so it may be prudent to engage the services of an SEO company that specialise in SMO as an additional service.

More recently visited the online world, the news that a virus will change to Google's search results and sites contaminated with lead unsuspecting Internet.
The operation of a pest Gumblar student named briefly as follows: out-of-date Adobe Acrobat Reader (PDF Reader) or Adobe Flash Player (media player) safety programs through the crevices into the user's computer, which then tries to collect the passwords stored on the Internet and used.
If they get in a number of Internet web site operating server, you can infect everything he can. It aims to install the downloaded code itself, which is to extend itself further, and is likely to be infected machine it will be the "background" is a network of PCs so that they may not know what the owners.

Bukisa is a place where you can share your knowledge with others and get paid when others use it.

Image representing Bukisa as depicted in Crunc...
Image via CrunchBase

How does the Bukisa Revenue Sharing model work?

Bukisa's unique and revolutionary revenue sharing model is based on two main revenue streams and the innovative Bukisa Index:
1. Getting paid for people reading, viewing or listening to your high quality published content.
2. Getting paid for the read, viewed & listened published content of your friends, friends' friends and their friends (up to 3 levels).
You get paid up to 3 (three) levels. Most people will ask their family and friends to join.
•    1st Level - You invite your Family and Friends and they are now helping you earn more money.
•    2nd Level – Your family and friends now ask their friends to join the Bukisa family and because your family and friends are contributors with Bukisa because of you, you are rewarded.
•    3rd level – Now their friends will want to boost their earnings by recruiting their own family and friends and you get rewarded a third time.
Here’s an example with a table illustration below.
Let's take a look at Simon.
  • Simon has 10 items published on Bukisa
  • Each item produces 100 unique views a day - that's a total of 30,000 unique views per month.
So Simon is earning $120 per month on the above content that he published (based on a Bukisa Index of $4).
Simon has lots of friends online so he invites them to join Bukisa.
  • A total of 30 of his friends sign up and start producing content.
  • In total those 30 friends are producing 150,000 unique views per month
  • Simon earns a total of 25% of their direct income ($600) which is $150.
Now Simon's friends start inviting their friends, and they start inviting their friends. You can from the table below that it can become a very profitable business to submit quality content to Bukisa.com:

Members in the Network Unique Impressions per/m Networks Revenues My Revenues Calculation
My Content 30,000 $120.00 30,000/1,000*4
1st Level Friends 30 150,000 $600.00 $150.00 150,000/1,000*4*25%
2nd Level Friends 60 300,000 $1,200.00 $75.00 300,000/1,000*4*25%*25%
3rd Level Friends 120 600,000 $2,400.00 $37.50 600,000/1,000*4*25%*25%*25%
Revenues per/m $382.50
* Based on a Bukisa Index of $4.00 during a period of 1 month.

What is the Bukisa Index?

The Bukisa Index is a unique and exciting way you can keep track of your earnings from your published content and networks content in Real Time.
What this number means is that for every 1,000 unique human visits to your content (and also accept our Bukisa advertising to be displayed) you will receive the USD equivalent of the Bukisa Index.
For example if the Bukisa Index is 4.00 that means you will receive $4.00 USD for every 1000 unique views your content receives.
The Bukisa Index is updated at least once per month based upon the overall performance of our websites revenue streams - this involves the following: Contextual Advertising, Banner Advertising, Email Marketing, Joint Ventures and more.
  • The higher the Bukisa Index, the more money you earn.

How can I track my earnings?

You can login to your account at any time and see how well you are doing. Just login and check out "My Earnings". You can view a complete history of your earnings and your payment history.

When do I get paid?

Generally, payments are made 30 days after you have reached your payment threshold. The payment threshold is usually $10 but you may wish to set a higher threshold for your payments.
  • Payment is made via paypal.
If your account balance is less than US $50 at the end of the month, we'll roll your earnings over to the following month, until the payment threshold is reached.

How much does it cost to sign up to Bukisa?

Joining Bukisa is free, publishing content is free and so are all the other functions of our site, such as voting, commenting and inviting friends in to your network.

What are some of the other benefits of joining Bukisa?

As a publisher on Bukisa your content will receive a wide range of publications. You can use this to strengthen your online identity and branding.
By filling in your online profile people can learn more about you and the services you provide, thus earning free publicity for your business.

Webmaster Tool Box

Category:Internet classic
Image via Wikipedia
Here is a collection of what we consider "must have" tools for webmasters. These tools will benefit any webmaster, both novices and experts alike. Arm yourself with these tools in order to achieve a more professional online presence.
1. Custom 404 Page
Use a custom 404 page, so that if a user incorrectly types a webpage URL, they will still retain navigational options within your site and be provided alternative solutions. When a domain is correctly entered, but a specific webpage's URL is entered incorrectly, it is possible to display your custom error page to the visitor. By providing users with a navigational bar and further assistance, rather than leaving them with a generic "page not found" error screen, you can often keep prospective customers on your site by providing them with navigation alternatives.
2. UrlTrends
UrlTrends is a service that shows historical trends, so that webmasters can see how their SEO efforts are affecting websites in the search engines. UrlTrends should be used in conjunction with web-logging software.
UrlTrends - www.urltrends.com
3. Favicon
Polish your website by adding a Favorite Icon. When a "favicon" is available on your site, and the site URL is entered in the user's web browser URL box, the favicon will be displayed beside the URL. This gives the website a more professional and polished look.
Favicon HTMLKit - www.htmlkit.com
4. Color Matching
Match the primary web colors with those used in your logo. Simply choose a preferred color using the ColorBlender service below, and a 6-color matching palette and blend will be automatically calculated for you.
ColorBlender - www.colorblender.com
5. Online WYSIWYG Editing
Online webpage editing allows for collaboration, so that different users can log in and edit web pages.

7. MaxEmail
MaxEmail's very affordable Internet fax and voicemail service allows a fax message to be delivered to an email address as a PDF formatted attachment. This allows fax messages to follow you regardless of your location. And, it also eliminates the need for a costly extra telephone line and a dedicated fax machine.

What is it: Scribd?

Microsoft Office PowerPoint

Image via Wikipedia

Scribd began with a simple observation – that there's a writer in all of us. And that even more fundamental than our desire for self-expression is our need to learn and be inspired.

Today, Scribd is the place where you publish, discover and discuss original writings and documents. More than 50 million people each month are finding or sharing fun, functional or fantastical writings and documents on Scribd.com and tens of thousands of other websites that have embedded Scribd's document reader.

We built a technology that's broken all barriers to traditional publishing and in the process also built one of the largest readerships in the world.

Democratizing Publishing

With Scribd's iPaper document reader, anyone can easily upload and immediately share their original works on Scribd.com or any other website. iPaper transforms PDF, Word, PowerPoint and many other file formats into an elegant web display. Your work can be shared with Scribd's community of passionate readers, and because every word of your document is indexed for search engine optimization, your screenplay, novel or even sheet music and recipes also can be discovered by the world.

You can create (or liberate from your hard drive) anything you want to share – that comparative essay on Nietzsche and Kierkegaard, the first three chapters of the book you've been meaning to finish, journal entries from your trip to Thailand... Scribd provides a creative and useful new platform for readers, authors, publishers and anyone else seeking to express themselves, share ideas and exchange information.

Increase Site Traffic Easily And Affordably

Facebook = Myspace

 By Giorgos Kontopoulos
Many people doing business online have great websites but don't seem to be selling anything. Their products or services are top-notch, and their looks both professional and unique. So why aren't they making any money? The issue is that it really doesn't matter how amazing your website is if no one ever sees it.
Here are 45 ways you can increase your website traffic easily and affordably.1. Create your site with search engines in mind. Most people who look up something on the internet do so by using a search engine. Use words and phrases related to your business throughout your site.
2. Blog about your site. Even if you don't have a dedicated blog for your website, mention it in your personal blog. You might even make multiple blogs-a personal one, a business one, etc.
3. Update these blogs on a regular basis (at least once a week).
4. Tag your blogs on sites like http://del.icio.us and www.technorati.com.
5. Use social networking sites like MySpace and Facebook to advertise your website.
6. Put your website address in your email signature.
7. Put your website in the signature area of any forum you post on regularly, especially if the forum is related to your service or product.
8. Add an RSS feed to your website news section or your website blog.

9. Watch for any grammar/spelling errors on your website. No one will stick around your site if it has obvious (and avoidable) errors on it. Proofread!
10. Likewise, make certain all the links on your website work.
11. Look at what kind of navigation tools you are using on your site. Some may not work with every web browser.
12. Write good articles and press releases about your website. The goal here is to get keywords into the article that will send people to your site.
13. List your website at DMOZ ( http://dmoz.org).
14. Review products on epinion.com and other review sites that are similar to yours.
15. Post comments on other blogs and websites that discuss products or services similar to yours. Be sure to include your website if there is space for a URL.
16. Put up business-related photos on sites like Flickr and tag them with your website address.
17. Make comments on blogs related to your website, and encourage people to comment on your blog.

Getting Your Website Ready for the iPhone

Image representing IPhone as depicted in Crunc...
Image via CrunchBase
Do you use mobile search? How many of you have an iPhone or an iPhone clone? Some of you might say you don’t want an iPhone, but I bet you would use it if you were given one. Those of you who do have an iPhone or similar device, how has your experience been with it as a Web browser?
Cindy Krum of Blue Moon Works is one of the many who believes that the iPhone has changed search. Think about it, you can use your iPhone whenever you want no matter where you are to connect to the Web.
So, what does all this have to do with businesses? It is up to you to make sure your website is, for lack of better words, mobile search friendly. Does this mean that you have to set up an entirely different website just for mobile? Absolutely not. You simply need to use your existing site to reach the mobile audience.
iPhone users are most likely on the go and don’t have the luxury of having their computer in front of them. Therefore, they don’t have time to wait for a site packed with Flash, JavaScript, or heavy code to load.
In summary, iPhone users need convenience. If it’s not easy for them to get the information they need, chances are they will disregard your site.
With more iPhones selling and more iPhone clones being developed, you had better get your site ready because mobile search is nowhere close to going away.
