LOOK! The US government is recording every single Tweet on Twitter

Seal of the United States Library of Congress....Image via Wikipedia
Congratulations friends and followers on Twitter!
Every single one of your public tweets on Twitter going back
4 years is being digitally recorded by the Library of Congress.
That means all of us tweeting on Twitter will be going down in history.
So a big question is…
Why is the US government taking interest in the Twitter universe?
Watch this Video by FoxNews to learn why
or to click viewing:
FoX News

TIP: Be on good behavior and maybe think twice before sending that Tweet. Twitter (like Facebook) is a real life social environment being recorded in many ways. So ask yourself… do I want the entire world to forever see what I tweeted?

Search Dominates New Twitter Homepage

An icon from icon theme Crystal Clear.Image via Wikipedia
This week Twitter proudly launched a new homepage. The redesign contains many new features, but the most prominent one, by far, is the search box.
Twitter says the new design is one effort the company is taking to help new users and people unfamiliar with the site better understand what the service offers. Aside from the sleek new color scheme, Twitter’s homepage also sports a new slogan. Instead of “What are you doing?” the new company slogan reads “Share and discover what’s happening right now, anywhere in the world.”
The redesign also includes “popular topics.” Formerly known as “trending topics,” the newly coined “popular topics” track the hottest topics by the minute, day, and week. The new design also offers Search Tips when a user searches for a specific item.
As mentioned above, the search box is the main feature on the page. Is this any indication that Twitter is taking steps to eventually become a search company? Only time will tell, but it is important to note that Twitter also recently announced a new search widget called Twitter 101.

Twitter Hack Sparking Security and Ethical Concerns

SAN FRANCISCO - MARCH 10: San Francisco Mayo...Image by Getty Images via Daylife
If you haven’t yet heard, the popular microblogging service Twitter was hacked. The hacker obtained access to the password of Twitter Co-founder Evan Williams’ email account, his wife’s email account, as well as the email accounts of other Twitter employees. From there, the hacker, who calls himself, “Hacker Croll,” also accessed other accounts including PayPal and Amazon. As a result, the hacker stole confidential documents from Twitter, which include business ideas, financial projections, executive notes, and more. To make matters even worse, “Hacker Croll” then sent this information to TechCrunch, Mashable, and a French technology blog called Korben. Mashable said it will not publish any of the documents, but despite the loud opposition from the online community, both TechCrunch and Korben have. Yesterday, TechCrunch published a series of executive meeting notes and promises to publish even more of the documents. This incident has raised both security and ethical alarms. Are you now questioning if your private and corporate information is safe and secure? Should TechCrunch and Korben have published these documents? Do physical and digital ethics differ? How will this event impact Twitter going forward?

Making Twitter Work for You

Most people dwell too much on the “rules” or accepted expectations for sites like Twitter. In this video, Michael Gray points out that there is no right way or wrong way to use Twitter. He says the only right way is when you are getting out of it what you want and what you’re putting into it.
What works for one person or business may not work for you. Therefore, it is important to determine your goals early and to do whatever you have to do to meet your goals.
Michael does give some basic tips that everyone could adopt and practice to build their reputation in the community. They are:
-    Be polite
-    Make friends
-    Start conversations
-    Ask questions
-    Answer questions
Most people prefer tweets that are not self-promoting. Michael says bigger brands have more flexibility in this regard, but even they should not take advantage of it. Twitter is about engagement and most self-promotions do not encourage it.
The value you receive from Twitter is ultimately determined when you identify your goals and work to meet them. It’s not about how many followers you acquire. What really matters is how many of those followers actually know who you are and are helping you meet your goals.

Elements: A Flickr, Twitter and Tumblr Hybrid?

Elements: A Flickr, Twitter and Tumblr Hybrid?

If you’re in search of a catalyst for creativity or a visual timeline of friend’s interest, then cast your glance on Elements. The site, newly launched by Lunarr, is an intriguing exploration of imagery and visual display.

Elements feels like a cross between Flickr’s interestingness, Twitter’s follow features and Tumblr’s content submission, with a focus on sharing inspirational content. Users can explore Elements’ recommended content, tell the system that they “like” items in order to view similar content, follow other users, upload or clip images and quotes, and see which other members like the same stuff.

The central focus of the site hinges around liking/creating elements and casting them out to your network. Elements uses your “likes” to learn your preferences for enhanced exploring. Should you go a step further and cast an item, you can share it with your followers on the site, email contacts, or use the Add This add-on to send to other social sites...more details

Twitter + Blogs = TwitBlogs!

twitblogs
You love Twitter, but you find its short form messages a little restricting? Or perhaps you want to add images and videos to your Tweets? TwitBlogs, which just went live in alpha, could solve all your problems.
What you’ll notice about Twitblogs versus other simple blog platforms like Tumblr and Posterous: it looks exactly like Twitter, simply without the 140 character limitation. There’s also support for image tags, embed tags (for videos) and the option to simply enter the URL of an image or audio file from anywhere on the web and have that included in your post. Obviously your headlines are syndicated to your Twitter feed, and you can Tweet from a tab on the posting screen, too.
TwitBlogs is simple, efficient, and solves a real problem: we like it. The question is: would you choose the familiarity of a Twitter-like interface over Tumblr, which provides more advanced features and theming, among other goodies?
